AAA Launches DUI Web Site for Professionals and Advocates
Phoenix, Ariz., April 10, 2009. AAA recently launched a new Web site created to aid in the research of criminal justice professionals, journalists and other traffic safety advocates. AAA’s DUI JusticeLink (www.AAADUIJusticeLink.com) is a compilation of DUI-related resources including state laws, up-to-date statistics and academic research reports.
According to the Arizona Motor Vehicle Department’s Crash Facts report, in 2007, alcohol related crashes accounted for 37 percent of all fatal crashes statewide, claiming the lives of 396 people, compared to 32 percent nationwide, per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“Each year, thousands of people are killed and injured in alcohol related crashes across the country,” said Linda Gorman, director of public affairs for AAA Arizona. “This Web site was designed to be a resource for criminal justice professionals, journalists as well as those who seek a better understanding of what occurs in the criminal justice community as a drunken driver is detected, prosecuted and adjudicated.”
The Web site also highlights the intricate DUI-related challenges faced by judges, prosecutors, law enforcement, probation personnel and parole officers as a drunken driver moves through the criminal justice system.
“Our ultimate hope for this Web site is that it will create a better understanding of systemic problems so that criminal justice professionals can work together to reduce drunk driving on our roadways,” Gorman said.
AAA Arizona, the Arizona affiliate of AAA, provides automotive, insurance and auto travel services to nearly 800,000 Arizona members. Annually, AAA’s Emergency Road Service responds to more than 450,000 calls for help on the streets and highways of the state as well as providing insurance, travel, and financial services to AAA members and motorists. Since its founding in 1927, AAA Arizona has been a leading advocate for the safety and security of all travelers.
