AAA Begins Search for Crossing Guard of the Year

Phoenix, Ariz., March 2, 2009.  AAA Arizona is accepting nominations for its second annual Crossing Guard of the Year Award.

School administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students and community members are invited to describe why they believe their candidate deserves the Crossing Guard of the Year designation. Self-nominations will also be accepted. AAA Arizona staff will evaluate nominations to select finalists for the award based on dedication, friendliness, professionalism and safety.

Once finalists are selected, their performance and duties will be evaluated by AAA Arizona traffic safety staff. Two finalists, one from each the East and West Valley, who demonstrate the best example of the procedures and responsibilities outlined in AAA’s Handbook for Adult Crossing Guards, will be awarded the honor. The winners will be announced and celebrated during the 2009 Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) regional crossing guard training before the school year begins.

Last year, AAA honored two crossing guards with the award after receiving more than 115 nominations from students, parents, community members and school faculty.

Nomination forms are available at all Maricopa County and Apache Junction area school district offices or can be downloaded online at www.aaaaz.com/news/CrossingGuardoftheYear.htm. Completed forms can be mailed to AAA Arizona, Attn: Public Affairs, 3144 N. 7th Avenue, Phoenix, Ariz., 85013, faxed to 602.776.0466 or emailed to publicrelations@arizona.aaa.com. Nominations must be submitted by April 15, 2009.
