President's Message
As we approach the first anniversary of 9/11, it is time to pause and reflect on the tragic events of that day—and also on recent developments that have shifted not only how we travel but how we do business. While the long-term effects on travel, tourism and our nation's economy are still being felt, we have made great strides in adapting to the demands additional security has placed on our transportation systems. AAA has responded to members' changing needs by working with its travel and other business partners to create new products and services to fit these needs. Despite economic struggles, more people are traveling than ever before. We have seen an increase in member requests to plan family reunions, develop trip routings by car and make last-minute reservations for cruises. New travel trends are being created as Americans rethink how, where and when they want to travel. Returning to some sense of normalcy continues to be challenged not only by the ongoing risk of terrorist attacks and the political uncertainty in the Middle East, but also by a new threat on our own struggling economy. The recent revelation of certain business practices has shaken investors' core confidence on Wall Street, and Americans are feeling threatened by the lack of concern for trust, honesty and integrity. For the past 100 years, AAA has built a reputation as an association that is there for members in times of need. We are dedicated to providing quality products and services that members want and need—and have come to expect. As a membership association with more than 45 million members, without the level of trust placed on us to deliver these services and products, AAA would not exist. We honor this trust, and will continue to do business honestly and with integrity. Now, more than ever before, AAA will make every effort to continue upholding these principles.
