AAA efforts
support child safety
I would like to commend AAA on its "behind the scenes" activities. I am a certified Child Passenger Safety technician/instructor—we would not have a nationalized CPS program without AAA.
The Child Passenger Restraint law that was passed in Colorado does not adequately protect all children the way it was originally written, and it is not best practice. However, it is a vast improvement over the law we had. The new law would probably not have made it through the legislature without the support of large safety organizations such as AAA.
I personally became a member of AAA because of the tremendous work that is undertaken by the organization to ensure safe travel for all passengers. Thank you for your efforts.

EnCompass asks,
readers respond
Editor's Note: In our September/
October issue we printed the first piece in a new concept called "Colorado Street Stories" and stated it would continue only if it received reader support. After numerous calls, emails and letters, the verdict is in—the feature stays! Thanks to all who took the time to voice their opinion.
Additional tips
for driving safely
In my mind, the biggest cause of auto accidents is from drivers following too closely. In last issue's "Tips for Driving Safely" , you espouse the three-second rule. I don't believe that works very well. I was taught to maintain one vehicle length that you're driving for every 10 mph you are traveling. It's simple to estimate and doesn't take three seconds to do it.
—John R. Silvers
I'd like to add to the list of safety information you gave in your "Tips for Driving Safely." 1. Keep to the right on multi-lane roads, except when passing. 2. The difference in the speeds of vehicles is dangerous, so move with the speed of traffic. 3. It's not one driver's job to slow down speeding drivers. Let them pass and let the police handle them-you are safer with faster "aggressive" drivers in front of you than behind.

Clarification
On "E" books
I read the article in the September/
October issue on the 2003/2004 "E" coupon book. I would like to clarify a few points: 70 percent, or $7, of the $10 per book cost goes to area schools and education programs, not to Colorado Education Project. The 2003/2004 "E" book has more than $200 in absolutely free goods and services. And, in just the first three years, the "E" book has raised more than $730,000 for
education.

Your Opinion Counts
Last Month: We asked readers to send in 50-word aviation memories. Thanks to all who responded. The majority of memories can be found in "A Magnificent Man and his Flying Machine" as part of this month's special transportation section.
This Month: In the January/February issue we will run a feature on a few of Colorado's historic hotels. We would like to include your opinions—what is your favorite historic hotel in Colorado, either for a visit or an overnight stay, and why?
