Show Your Card & Save
This Halloween give the gift of sight
Some trick-or-treaters have their eyes on more than candy
Many eager trick-or-treaters head out each Halloween in search of sweet treats for their tummies. But, thousands of ghouls and goblins also venture out in search of something that will change lives: used eyeglasses.
Each year, thousands of AAA members, scout troops, community groups, and individuals participate in Sight Night, a new Halloween tradition: children go door-to-door collecting used eyeglasses along with candy. Then, the eyeglasses are dropped off at a LensCrafters store or Lions club, where they are recycled and hand-delivered to people in developing countries.
Millions around the world need eyeglasses but cannot afford them. In 2005, the eyeglasses collected on Sight Night may help people in countries such as Mexico, South Africa and Thailand. Although an outdated pair of glasses may seem useless to the owner, they prove to be priceless to recipients desperate to see for the first time.
Get involved and
make a difference
AAA members are invited to trick-or-treat for a cause this Halloween. Visit www.sightnight.org or call 866-605-4242 toll-free for a free collection kit and fun ideas. You can always bring your used eyeglasses to any LensCrafters store or to any AAA office and deposit them in a LensCrafters Gift of Sight collection box as well.
NAPA is partner
of the month
for October
During AAA's Car Care Month in October, AAA Colorado members can earn cash back when they purchase two NAPA ExactFit wiper blades. This is in addition to the usual Show Your Card & Save discounts that members get every day on NAPA's parts and accessories.
Which prescription
card is best for you?
With discount prescription cards flooding the market, sorting out the benefits of each one can be confusing.
If comparing Medicare approved discount programs, AAA members should also compare the AAA Prescription Savings program designed to help all members, regardless of age, save on prescriptions. Consider the following:
The Medicare program states that its average savings is about 17 percent, while the AAA program saves an average of more than 21 percent, and even deeper discounts by utilizing the mail order program.
Although the Medicare program and the AAA Prescription Savings program cannot be combined, the AAA Prescription Savings program can be used instead of the Medicare-approved card for drugs not covered by the Medicare program, or for drugs that provide greater savings under the AAA program.
Once a Medicare program is chosen, a person is locked into that program for the specified time, which is usually a year. The AAA Prescription Savings program can be used at any time and there is no enrollment period. Those choosing a Medicare program can also participate in the AAA program to save on drugs not covered by the Medicare program, but the two programs cannot be combined.
The AAA program is available to anyone regardless of age, while the Medicare program is primarily for persons 65 years of age or older.
Unlike the Medicare program, the AAA program is available to all family members and even includes some medications for your pets.
Most Medicare programs carry an annual fee. The AAA program is free with membership, which makes this yet another great reason to be a AAA member.
