University selected for its exceptional hospitality management program Denver, June 23-University of Denver sophomore Christopher Morrissey is receiving the sixth annual $5,000 AAA Five Diamond Scholarship for the 2006-2007 academic year. AAA established within the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation (AH&LEF) the Annual Scholarship Grant Program to honor outstanding hospitality students. It is named after AAA’s popular Diamond rating program which is the only comprehensive system for rating hotels, restaurants and attractions. Each year, AAA selects one of AH&LEF’s affiliated four-year colleges and universities with exceptional hospitality management programs to receive the award, which is rotated yearly around the country. The selected institute is then invited to nominate its best candidate —chosen as a result of his or her academic performance, hospitality work experience, extracurricular involvement, and financial need. The University of Denver’s Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management School at the Daniel's College of Business got the nod this year. “It’s quite an honor for our school to be selected,” said Jill Hartman, assistant director of external relations at the Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management School. “We appreciate the support of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation for giving students this opportunity.” Morrissey, a hotel, restaurant and tourism management and finance/marketing major at the University of Denver, currently has a cumulative grade point average of 3.91. He has aspirations of owning and operating a variety of lodging properties. Additionally, Morrissey hopes to one day “help provide a means of living and advancement opportunities for employees, create treasured memories and enjoyable experiences for guests, and pass on the lessons of hospitality to the next generation of leaders.” Morrisey was one of seven students at DU who applied for the scholarship.
