AAA Colorado's Durango Office Adds Member Services

Here's more good news for our growing number of members in the southwest part of the state. AAA Colorado's Durango office now offers the complete roster of member services and benefits, including travel, insurance, and fee-free American Express Travelers Cheques®. Our Durango office is located at 2007 Main Avenue, about one mile from downtown. Whether you're a southwestern Colorado resident, or you're traveling through the area, now AAA Colorado is there to serve you.

Keeping Our Youngest Passengers Safe: A National Priority

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have recently announced two important initiatives to improve child passenger safety. NHTSA now offers a Web site to help consumers locate child safety seat inspection stations. To access this site, got www.nhtsa.dot.gov and click the "Child Safety Seat Inspections" button. You'll be asked to enter your ZIP code and the site will provide you with the nearest inspection station. NTSB has recently published "Putting Children First." This publication details steps taken to protect children from death or injury in transportation-related crashes. The booklet also suggests initiatives that will provide even better protection for children. To obtain the publication, contact the NTSB at 800-877-6799, or visit their Web site at www.ntsb.org.

AAA Colorado's Approved Auto Repair Program Welcomes Your Recommendations!

Our Approved Auto Repair (AAR) program is quickly gaining momentum. Auto repair facilities that meet AAA's exacting standards display the official AAA Approved Auto Repair logo. These facilities provide guaranteed repairs, and provide written estimates for work in advance. AAA receives facility applications regularly. It's important to note that only 30 percent of the facilities applying for program membership are accepted. Since the program was introduced five years ago, members have called and written to us directly to express how much they value this benefit. Now, as part of our commitment to expanding the AAR program, we're looking for qualified auto repair facilities in both the Grand Junction and Durango areas. We welcome members' recommendations at 877-244-9790 (toll free) or e-mail us.

More Savings for AAA Colorado Members

Don't miss an opportunity to flash your AAA card and reap the added benefits of your membership. Many Colorado establishments offer added savings to AAA members. Listed in the Colorado TourBook®, the available discount can sometimes be missed-particularly for local attractions. For example, in Colorado Springs, members receive a discount at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and the Western Museum of Mining and Industry. For Denver residents, savings can be found at the Colorado History Museum, Ocean Journey aquarium, the Denver Art Museum, Six Flags Elitch Gardens, the Black American West Museum & Heritage Center, and Museo De Las Americas. Other towns throughout the state are included in the TourBook®, along with locations where AAA members can save at local attractions. Look for the red "SAVE" symbol in the margin. Check your AAA Colorado TourBook for details.

Your Driving Costs Brochure Outlines Vehicle Expenses

AAA has published Your Driving Costs, a brochure highlighting driving- and car-related expenses, since 1950. Answering the question "How much does it cost to drive?" the pamphlet includes national per-mile costs and the composite national average for three different automobiles. Figures are broken down according to operating costs (gas, oil, maintenance, etc.) and ownership costs (taxes, depreciation finance charges, registration, insurance, license fees, etc.). Also included is information on costs relating to vacation planning and business travel. To request a free copy of the 2000 brochure, visit your local AAA office, call 303-753-8800, ext. 8207 or e-mail us.
