The Best-Laid Plans

2001 President's Cruise Destination has Changed Tony DeNovellis, President and CEO

The best-laid plans can go awry. That is exactly what happened to one of the Club's major yearly events…the President's Cruise.
Last month, when we announced the 2001 President's Cruise, we had set our sights on the islands of Hawaii. Plans were to set sail aboard the ms Patriot, one of three vessels that United States Lines will add to the Hawaiian waters over the next three years. United States Lines is currently building the newest, largest and most elegant luxury cruise ships ever to sail in Hawaiian waters starting in 2003 and 2004.
The United States Lines is one of our preferred travel companies. We look forward to giving our travelers an opportunity to be among the first passengers to sail on one of these new ships and to experience first-hand a standard of luxury cruise travel. This high standard is not only a hallmark of AAA Colorado President's Cruises, but is reminiscent of the heyday of cruise travel that made the Hawaiian Islands a dream destination.
After considering a number of factors, including our members' shipboard preferences and destination requests, I have decided to cancel our President's Cruise to the Hawaiian Islands. The bottom line: the ms Patriot is not ready to meet the expectations of our loyal membership and the successes of our President's Cruise sailings.
I have chosen in its place, Holland America's Caribbean Treasures Seafarer cruise, a 10-day sailing adventure through seven exotic ports of call, including Bonaire, Isla de Margarita in Venezuela, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, St. John, St. Thomas and the Bahamas. We will fly into Ft. Lauderdale November 1, 2001 for an overnight stay before departing on November 2 aboard the 1,440-passenger ms Volendam. Just brought into service in August 1999, thems Volendam is one of Holland America's newest class of luxury cruise ships.
I hope you will join me and Judy as we host a special onboard reception to welcome AAA Colorado travelers and kick-off 10 days of fun, sunny skies and moonlit nights amidst the enchanting Caribbean isles. Again, thank you for allowing us to be your partners in travel. We look forward to sailing with you on the 2001 President's Cruise to the Caribbean.
