AAA offers these 5 top tips when traveling with kids:
1. Get the kids involved in trip planning. Using maps provides a great geography lesson.
From choosing an activity or attraction, to picking a restaurant along the way, it goes a long way toward getting kids excited about traveling.
2. Work with a travel professional to find lodging along your route that offers special activities for children while giving Mom and Dad some time to themselves. Reservation planning is also available on aaa.com.
3. To avoid traffic jams, get up extra early, let the kids sleep a couple of hours in the car and stop for breakfast along the way.
4. Buy activities and games designed for car travel to keep kids occupied on the road. AAA Travel stores, bookstores and other retail outfits have great items to choose from.
5. Stop every couple of hours to give kids a chance to burn off some energy and to give the driver a break! Make sure to account for everyone and buckle up in seat belts before starting down the road.
