AAA Programs to Benefit the Environment

"Think globally, act locally" has real meaning at AAA. Decades ago, AAA was among the first organizations to teach motorists to properly dispose of used motor oil, tires and batteries and to maintain ignition systems to reduce vehicle emissions and save fuel. Additionally, AAA supports state and national laws that encourage car owners and industries to minimize the impact of motor vehicles on the environment.

Review some examples of AAA activities to benefit the environment:

  • AAA Great Battery Roundup collects thousands of used batteries for recycling each year.
  • In addition to encouraging fuel efficiency and conservation, AAA's National Car Care Month educates car owners that a poorly maintained vehicle can contribute to excessive energy consumption and air pollution.
  • Promoting ecotourism through campaigns and publications produced in conjunction with federal agencies.
  • State and local efforts sponsored by your local AAA club.
