AAA Approved Driving School Students to Participate in
Teen Driver Safety Event July 26
Indianapolis, IN (July
17, 2007) – AAA
Hoosier Motor Club will host its first ever Teen Driver
Safety Event July 26 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the
parking lot of its administrative building—3750 Guion Rd.
(near W. 38th St.) in Indianapolis.
Students from three of the club’s Approved Driving School
Network (ADSN) affiliates—American Driving Academy (formerly
Burkhardt’s Driver Education), AA Indiana Driving School and
Drive Zone—will be on-hand to navigate and evaluate a
pre-established cone-lined course.
The event is free and open to the public but only students
from the three attending ADSN schools will be allowed to
participate in the driving exercise.
Though not a competition, participants will be timed as they
make numerous left and right-hand turns, utilize backing
maneuvers and pull both into and out of various “stalls”
that will represent parking spaces.
Certified Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC)
instructors will ride along with each driver.
“We’re not as concerned with the time of completion as we
are with the driving itself,” said AAA Hoosier Motor Club
Approved Driving School Network Leader Bob Hendrickson. “We
want error-free driving.”
Additionally, NASCAR driver David Ragan, driver of the No. 6
AAA Insurance Ford Fusion, will pay a visit to talk about
safe driving. Ragan, who will be in town for the NASCAR
Busch Series race at O’Reilly Raceway Park July 28 as well
as the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at the world-famous
Indianapolis Motor Speedway July 29, is expected to be
available to the media during the Teen Driver Safety Event
from approximately 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Ragan is thrilled over the prospect of driving at the famed
Indianapolis Motor Speedway, in particular. “It’s kind of
like a dream,” he said. “I grew up thinking that maybe one
day I’d be there.
“With both races, we’ll have a lot of family and friends up
there…everybody wants to come to Indianapolis.”
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration, vehicle crashes are the leading cause of
teen deaths and in recent times, AAA Hoosier Motor Club has
taken a very active role in promoting education for
inexperienced drivers.
In 2005, the club initially launched its ADSN program in
which club representatives seek out existing private and
commercial driving schools to promote the possibility of an
affiliation. Those interested in being endorsed by AAA H.M.C.
must undergo an extensive review process in which everything
from facilities to curriculum to instructors is analyzed.
The club will only approve and affiliate businesses that
meet its strict standards for excellence.
“For many years, we’ve been widely recognized as a major
safety advocate and guardian of the state’s roadways,” said
Greg Seiter, public affairs manager for AAA Hoosier Motor
Club. “Our teenagers are precious. They are our future and
we believe that quality driver education will help train
these young Hoosiers to drive defensively and responsibly.
“Our Teen Driver Safety Event is yet another way for us to
stress the importance of safe driving to Indiana’s youth.”
