aaa repair assurance plan frequently asked questions
Because buying a AAA Repair Assurance Plan may be confusing, a list of the most frequently asked questions received from AAA members follows. If you have additional questions, please call 1-978-681-9200. A Member Relations representative is ready to answer your questions and help you make an informed mechanical breakdown protection decision.
Most new vehicles today come with a 3- or 4-year/36,000 or 50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty provided by the factory, known as a "manufacturer's warranty." The AAA Repair Assurance Plan provides coverage that goes beyond the limit of the manufacturer's warranty. With today's vehicles being more complex, repairs are more costly. Protecting yourself with mechanical breakdown protection from AAA can help you avoid a potential budget-destroying repair. Payments for covered parts, labor and applicable sales tax required for replacement or repair of mechanical systems are based on the specified amount of time and/or mileage you select.
2. What is the "Original Manufacturer's Warranty"?
The "Original Manufacturer's Warranty" is the initial warranty provided by the manufacturer for a new vehicle. Most Manufacturers offer an "Original" warranty that is limited to 36 months or 36,000 miles.
Administered by WG Warranty and Insurance Services, the AAA Repair Assurance Plan is underwritten by Lyndon Property Insurance Company, an A.M. Best A-rated (excellent) company. For additional information, contact 1-978-681-9200 or email us at financial@aaamv.com.
4. Why should I choose a AAA Repair Assurance Plan over other extended warranties?
The AAA Repair Assurance Plan is a cost-effective plan that provides comprehensive coverage, simple claims processing, and a reduced deductible when necessary repairs are completed at a participating AAA Approved Auto Repair facility. A Repair Assurance Plan can protect you against the rising cost of repairs and gives you the freedom to get repairs done when you need them. With three coverage levels - Platinum, Gold and Silver - you select the plan that best meets your needs.
The earlier you purchase mechanical breakdown protection, the less expensive it is. The AAA Repair Assurance Plan is life insurance for your vehicle and, like life insurance, the older your vehicle is, the more expensive the insurance. As your vehicle ages and accrues mileage, the price for protection rises. Prices also may increase due to increases in the cost of labor and parts. A Repair Assurance Plan from AAA gives you the coverage you need to protect your investment at today's low prices and arms you against the rising costs of repairs.
7. My vehicle is very reliable. Why do I need a AAA Repair Assurance Plan?
Even well maintained, reliable vehicles may experience a mechanical failure. Older, higher mileage vehicles are more likely to have a breakdown. And, with the complexity of vehicles today, one major repair may cost you more than a mechanical breakdown protection plan itself. A Repair Assurance Plan from AAA gives you peace of mind in knowing it will be there when you need it the most.
The AAA Repair Assurance Plan offers three levels of coverage: Platinum, Gold and Silver. Depending on your needs, coverage is available that matches your driving and financial requirements.
The AAA Repair Assurance Plan offers AAA members exclusive benefits including:
Alternate Transportation - You are covered for up to six days of car rental (up to $30 per day, for a total of $180) for each repair visit when you rent a vehicle from a rental agency or dealer.
Emergency Repair Benefit - If the Claims Service is closed, you can authorize repairs up to $350, less your deductible.
Direct Claim Payment - Covered repairs are paid directly to the repair facility to eliminate unnecessary paperwork for you.
Lifetime Deductible Guarantee - Ensures you will not incur deductible charges for second or subsequent failures to the same part.
Transferable - If you sell your vehicle to a private party, you may transfer the plan to the new owner.
You may take your vehicle to any licensed repair facility in the United States or Canada. However, we recommend you take your vehicle to a AAA Approved Auto Repair (AAR) facility. With more than 7,800 facilities available across the United States and Canada, you can be sure a AAA AAR shop will get you back on the road as fast as possible. And, you save up to $50 when you use a AAA AAR facility to complete your repairs. Instead of the usual $100 deductible per repair visit, use a AAA AAR shop and your deductible is only $50 per repair visit.
Take your vehicle, or have it towed, to the nearest AAA Approved Auto Repair shop or to a licensed repair facility of your choice. After diagnosing the problem, make sure the repair shop contacts our Claims Service department at our toll-free number to obtain repair authorization before beginning any work. Repair authorization must be obtained prior to initiating repair work. If prior authorization is not obtained, your claim will not be honored. When repairs are complete and you have notified us that you accept the repairs, the repair facility will receive direct payment, less the deductible, via our corporate credit card, which eliminates unnecessary paperwork for you.
12. How can I be sure my future claims will be paid?
It is important to make certain an insurer protects your plan. Administered by WG Warranty and Insurance Services, the AAA Repair Assurance Plan is underwritten by Lyndon Property Insurance Company, an A.M. Best A-rated (excellent) company. 15. How do I enroll my vehicle for a AAA Repair Assurance Plan?

16. Where is my Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) located?
You can find the VIN in several locations. It is printed on your vehicle Registration card; on your vehicle Insurance card; and is often imprinted on a tag located on the dashboard near the windshield on the driver's side.
17. Is it safe to enroll online using my credit card?
Yes. We use the strongest encryption available on the Internet and are VeriSign-certified. Areas that require entering credit card information are on a Secure Website and your credit card information is encrypted prior to transmission using 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Technology.
19. Can I buy this same type of coverage through a dealership?
Similar coverage is available through dealerships and AAA encourages its members to research alternative options. When purchasing this type of coverage through a dealership, you may be required to return the vehicle to them to obtain service. With AAA, you have the freedom to go to any AAA Approved Auto Repair facility or licensed repair shop across the United States and Canada.
20. Will service facilities be willing to repair my vehicle under my AAA Repair Assurance Plan?
Most reputable repair facilities will honor repair work covered by a AAA Repair Assurance Plan. The plan pays retail for parts and labor based on standard industry pricing guides, and the repair facility receives payment via a corporate credit card as soon as the repair is complete. Repair facilities are familiar with mechanical breakdown protection plans and they know they can trust AAA.
21. I have seen lower prices on the Internet. Why should I buy a AAA plan?
There are many plans available and AAA wants you to be aware of and understand the differences in each plan. The lowest price often does not provide the best value. Your decision should be based on the financial stability of the insurance company and its claims service. When comparing companies, make sure you are receiving the same benefits, the same coverage, and ask to look at the contract prior to purchasing the plan. You may pay a little more for a AAA Repair Assurance Plan, but you can be sure you will get hassle free, comprehensive coverage from a financially stable company.
22. What if my vehicle breaks down and I am not near my home?
Breakdowns are inconvenient. A vehicle breakdown away from home can be extremely stressful. Your AAA Repair Assurance Plan provides complete protection and repair facility assistance anywhere in the United States and Canada. And, with more than 7,800 AAA Approved Auto Repair facilities across the United States and Canada, you can rest assured your vehicle is in good hands. Wherever your travels may take you, our claims department is a toll-free call away.
23. Am I eligible for a refund if I cancel my AAA Repair Assurance Plan?
AAA wants to make sure each of its members is completely satisfied with their mechanical breakdown protection plan purchase and offers a Money Back Guarantee with every plan sold. If you are not completely satisfied with your plan within the first 60 days (30 days for pre-owned vehicles) and have not filed a claim, you will receive a 100 percent refund, no questions asked. After 60 days (30 days for pre-owned vehicles), you are entitled to a pro-rated refund of the unused portion of your plan based on the plan purchase date.
24. What happens to my coverage if I trade-in my vehicle?
When you purchase a plan, you have coverage throughout the ownership of your vehicle. If you decide to trade-in your vehicle, simply call us and we will calculate a pro-rated refund.
25. If I sell my vehicle, is my AAA Repair Assurance Plan transferable?
Your vehicle is worth more in market value when potential buyers know it includes AAA Repair Assurance Plan coverage. For $55, you may transfer your coverage to a private purchaser. If you sell or trade-in your vehicle to an automobile dealer, you can cancel your plan and receive a refund for the unused portion. Refunds are determined based on either days in force or miles driven, and the date coverage began.
