Making the Roads Safer for All of Us:
AAA Minnesota/Iowa & the Midwest Traffic Safety Foundation

At AAA Minnesota/Iowa, we established the Midwest Traffic Safety Foundation to educate, promote and advocate for traffic related safety issues. Programs and activities performed by AAA Minnesota/Iowa and the MTSF are outlined below and your financial assistance will help to continue and enhance these programs.

Educate- Above and beyond regular AAA Minnesota/Iowa traffic safety programs such as the School’s Open campaign, child passenger safety, school safety patrol, bicycle safety, alcohol awareness, driver training and traffic safety materials, the MTSF has sponsored many other programs including:
  • Centennial Grant Program- One hundred, $100 grants were made available to schools to use for school safety patrol and other traffic safety programs.
  • Not Even for a Minute Campaign- Worked with the Iowa Medical Society Alliance to educate motorists on the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles.
  • Youth Safety Day - Cosponsored Youth Safety Day, a year-end school patrol event where awards were presented to select safety patrollers in Minnesota and Iowa.
  • Safe Kids Buckle Up- Cosponsored the production of a child passenger safety brochure with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, which is distributed to hospitals, public health agencies, ECFE centers, car seat fitting centers and medical clinics.

Promote- For more than 65 years, AAA has been the driving force in educating novice drivers while earning the reputation as the leading expert in promoting safety. AAA is proud to offer a wide variety of driver programs, products and services. AAA produces and develops high quality publications that enhance classroom instruction and serve as reminders of specific driver safety issues. Brochures address topics such as how to choose a driving school, safety belt use, drinking and driving and special techniques for driving in rain or snow, to name a few. In addition, classroom and in-car equipment is available to complement our instructional programs.

Advocate- Advocating for safer roads is a fundamental part of our responsibility to our members. We begin by surveying our members concerning important traffic safety issues including seat belt use, cell phone use, traffic congestion, as well as transportation funding levels and sources. Then, we compile the results and communicate those results to legislators at both state capitols. At the same time, we involve our members in these lobbying efforts if they choose to receive legislative information and action alerts, and we supply them with the communication means needed to contact the appropriate legislator or committee in a timely fashion.

You can help us educate, promote and advocate for traffic related safety issues by making a contribution today. Every dollar you contribute will help us make a difference because together we can make the roads safer for all of us as well as our loved ones. Please give generously!
