Kéntro Meletis Ikoy Theatroy (Greek Theatre Museum)

( Worth Seeing )

In the basement rooms below the Greek Cultural Centre - call in to get a programme of current cultural events in the many state-owned museums and galleries - is this small, but fun, museum devoted to Greek theatre. Unless you are especially interested and can read the Greek captions, it will probably not detain you for long, but it has some enjoyable exhibits. The most interesting section is the row of re-created dressing rooms of prominent Greek actors, including the much-loved Melina Mercouri. Her gowns, some books, shoes, glasses, make-up box, letters from fans and much other memorabilia are effectively displayed. The museum also contains theatrical costumes, puppets, posters and miniature stage sets from important Greek productions.
