Urban Transportation
The easiest way to get around Athens is to walk or take one of the numerous yellow taxis. Taxis are hailed on the street and often shared; you pay for your segment of the journey, so check the meter when you get in. Alternatively, your hotel can arrange a taxi for you. Buses, trolley buses and the metro (subway) operate daily 5 a.m.-midnight; tickets are available at kiosks and are interchangeable with subway tickets, which can be bought at stations. Validate bus and trolley bus tickets on board and subway tickets at entrances to platforms. The Athens Urban Transport Organization's (OASA) website, www.oasa.gr, is very useful for locating bus, trolley bus and metro routes. |
