Pláka
Visitors return time and again to the picturesque Pláka neighborhood, at the foot of the Acropolis. The maze of colorful narrow
streets, flower-bedecked squares and huge range of stores and tavernas may be touristy, but also radiate charm. Bustling Kidhathineon
and Adrianoú, the main streets, teem with street life and are lined with mainly 19th-century, colorfully painted houses. Don't
miss the dazzling white alleys that comprise Anafiotika, on the northern slopes of the Acropolis. This area was built in the
1840s by masons from the Cycladic islands, and it still retains a village atmosphere.
