( Do not miss ) A stroll down North Terrace, Adelaide's grandest avenue, is the best way to see the city's historic buildings, several of which are open to the public. At the western end are the Adelaide Casino in a restored 1920s railway station, Old Parliament House, and the latter's neighbouring, much more impressive successor. East of King William Street lie the South Australian Museum, the Art Gallery of South Australia, and 1840s Ayers House, former home of Sir Henry Ayers, who was seven times Premier of South Australia and the inspiration behind the naming of Ayers Rock.
