Did You Know?
North Adelaide & City Parklands

An easy walk which takes you beyond the city centre and into some of Adelaide's delightful parklands.

Start on King William Road, just beyond the junction with North Terrace.

The Adelaide Festival Centre is the heart of Adelaide's arts scene. The large modern building houses several performance halls and a performing arts museum. River cruises start in front of the centre.

Continue north on King William Road, crossing the River Torrens on Adelaide Bridge.

St Peter's Cathedral dates from 1869; the bells are the heaviest and finest in the southern hemisphere.

Walk along Pennington Terrace to reach Montefiore Hill.

From the look-out, `Light's Vision', next to the statue of Colonel William Light, there are wonderful views.

Walk up Jeffcott Street towards Wellington Square, then turn right at Archer Street to reach O'Connell Street.

The elegant suburb of North Adelaide contains many grand old homes. A lively pub, café and gallery scene thrives along O'Connell and Melbourne streets.

From O'Connell Street, turn left into Brougham Place, then right into Frome Road to reach Melbourne Street. Return to Frome Road and cross the River Torrens via Albert Bridge to Adelaide's small zoo.

Adelaide Zoo is one of Australia's oldest. It has good aviaries and reptile house and an entertaining collection of Australian mammals.

Follow the signs to the Botanic Garden.

The Adelaide Botanic Garden is delightful. Don't miss the Bicentennial Conservatory, a vast glass dome containing a tropical rainforest, and the nearby National Wine Centre.

Return to North Terrace.
