Beaches, Woodlands and Parks

Even along Belgium's relatively short 60-mile coastline there are attractive sand dunes, beaches and resorts, lively towns such as Oostende, and exclusive and stylish places like De Haan or Knokke-Heist. And though there may be no dramatic mountains, the southern provinces of Namur and Liège embrace the hill country of the Ardennes, a varied and pleasant landscape of woods, river valleys and soft moorland where you can walk or enjoy bicycle rides around Dinant and Rochefort.

For gardens and floral displays, try the National Botanical Garden at Meise, near Brussels. If theme parks appeal to you, Belgium has a variety of venues to thrill children and adults alike. At Wavre, near Brussels, is Six Flags Belgium, a huge theme park with a water park, Aqualibi, adjacent; just outside Bruges, at Boudewijnpark, is Europe's largest dolphinarium.
