DRIVING

Speed limit on main roads : 100kph

On minor roads: 90kph

Speed limit in towns (Poblaciones): 50kph

Seat belts must be worn in front seats at all times and in rear seats where fitted.

Blood alcohol limit: 8 milligrams per millilitre.

Fuel (gasolina) is available as: Super Plus (98 octane), Super (96 octane), unleaded or sin plomo (90 octane) and gasoleo or gasoil (diesel). Petrol stations are normally open 6am-10pm, and closed Sundays, though larger ones are open 24 hours. Most take credit cards.

If you break down driving your own car and are a member of an AIT-affiliated motoring club, you can call the Real Automóvil Club de España (Phone: 91 593 33 33). If the car is hired, follow the instructions given in the documentation; most of the international rental firms provide a rescue service.
