These romantic, Italian-style gardens, on the wooded outer rim of Barcelona near the Vall d'Hebrón, present a pleasing contrast to the stark modern espais urbans (urban spaces) of the city centre. They originally surrounded a grand 18th-century mansion, which has long since been demolished, but the park has maintained its formal flowerbeds, canals and fountains, its ornamental statuary and its centrepiece - the 'Labyrinth' - a beautiful topiary maze with a statue of Eros at its centre that has given the park its name.
