The Gemäldegalerie (Picture Gallery) displays European art from the 13th to the 18th centuries; look for works by 16th-century Dutch master Pieter Brueghel and the collection of Italian Renaissance art. The glass-and-steel Neue Nationalgalerie (New National Gallery) includes works by Salvador Dalí, Paul Klee and others. A highlight of the Kulturforum complex (built 1978-85) is the Kunstgewerbe museum (Arts and Crafts Museum), where gold, silver, glass, porcelain and jeweled arts and crafts are displayed. The star item is the eighth-century Burse Reliquary, a casket glittering with silver, pearls, gems and gold inlay. Next door to the Philharmonie und Kammermusiksaal der Philharmonie, the Musikinstrumenten-Museum (Museum of Musical Instruments) has everything from ancient bagpipes to synthesizers.
