Finding Your Way
A City of Canals Cosmopolitan Tastes Lace, Chocolate and Music |
Cosmopolitan Tastes Amid this historical splendor, modern Bruges has its own delights. The city's social life is centered on the Market Square and 't Zand, both lined with sidewalk cafés and bars. There is a Wednesday Market on the first square and a larger Saturday Market on the latter. Between 't Zand and the Markt lie Bruges' busiest streets, Noordzandstraat and Zuidzandstraat, the latter leading into the shopping area of Steenstraat, with connecting squares and narrow streets harboring cafés and bistros. Eating out in Bruges is a diner's delight. You will find every type of international restaurant, but try Belgian specialties such as kalfsblanket, veal ragout, or lapin à la gueuze, rabbit cooked in gueuze beer, or in winter, hutsepot, a hotpot of vegetables with lamb. |
