Lace

Bruges has long been famous for its lace. Lace making in Flanders originated in the 16th century, when lace makers specialized in bobbin lace, a method that used weaving and plaiting with thread-loaded bobbins, with the threads pinned to the pattern. The other great lace-making center was Italy, where needlepoint lace originated, a method of embroidering with buttonhole and other stitches.
