Sint- Salvatorskathedraal

Bruges' great churches reflect a sober Flemish style rather than Latin exuberance. But Sint-Salvatorskathedraal (St. Saviour's Cathedral) has many features to counteract its Gothic vastness. The high altar and the 15th-century choir stalls add a richly decorative note; the rood loft, beneath the organ case, contains a superb baroque sculpture of God the Father in white marble by Arthur Quellin the Younger. Visit the Cathedral Museum; among its treasures is the vivid realism of Dirk Bouts' 15th-century triptych The Martyrdom of St. Hippolytus.
