Memling Museum
St. John's Hospital, founded in the 12th century, was one of the oldest surviving medieval hospitals in Europe, but it has
been renovated into a spectacular background for Hans Memling's paintings. A German painter, Memling settled in Bruges in
1465 and soon was in great demand. The chapel, which contains magnificent 15th-century Memling panels and the St. Ursula Shrine,
is the highlight of the complex, but the old hospital pharmacy is also worth a visit. Look out for the Madonna with Child
and the Lamentation of Christ.
