Urban Transportation
Brussels has three main railroad stations: the Gare du Nord/Noordstation (Brussels North), Gare Centrale/Centraal Station (Brussels Central) and Gare du Midi/ Zuidstation (Brussels South). Eurostar service from London's Waterloo train station (2 hours, 40 minutes) arrives at Brussels South, as does the TGV/Thalys train (1 hour 20 minutes) from Paris. For rail information call Phone:02 555 2555. There are metro (subway) stops at all three stations. Subway stations are marked on the map as “M” and are identified at entrances by a white letter “M” on a blue background. Brussels has subways, buses and an underground tram system (same ticket for all), as well as taxis. The three subway lines have stations conveniently placed near major attractions. Underground trams run between Gare du Nord and Gare du Midi. For general information on city transportation call Phone:02 515 2000 (Mon.-Fri. 8-7, Sat. 8-4). Licensed, metered taxis can be hailed in the street or from a taxi stand; rates double when traveling outside the city. There are taxi stands at Grand' Place and at Gare Centrale. |
