Introduction
The two spires of Cologne (Köln) Cathedral soar above the Rhine, reminders of its past glory as a center of pilgrimage and
the biggest city in medieval Germany. Despite the destruction of most of its central core in World War II, the city has retained
and restored considerable evidence of its long and distinguished past. Today Cologne is thriving again, in business, trade,
the arts and education, and its renowned sense of fun adds to the character that makes this one of Germany's most attractive
cities.
