The Heart of Dublin The Ha'penny Bridge |
The Ha'penny Bridge Dublin's Ha'penny Bridge, over the River Liffey, is best reached from Temple Bar by going down the narrow Merchant's Arch - look closely for the symbols of nearby stores carved into the pavement. The bridge dates from 1816 and is made of cast iron; its elegant arches are lit up at night. It was officially named the Wellington Bridge after the British Duke of Wellington, but gained its popular name from the half-penny toll once charged for crossing it. |
