Trinity College
Dublin's Trinity College is an outstanding architectural and cultural oasis at the heart of a busy city. It was founded in
1592, but all of the present buildings date from after 1700. Enter the complex from College Green, between statues of poet
Oliver Goldsmith and orator Edmund Burke, and then go through the Corinthian facade of the Palladian Regent House. This leads
into cobbled Parliament Square, lined with grand buildings and dominated by a tall campanile. Trinity's Old Library and its
Long Room contain a number of outstanding artifacts, including the ninth-century Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript
of the four gospels of the New Testament. Another attraction is the Dublin Experience, an audiovisual overview of the city,
housed in the modern Arts and Social Science Building.
