`Scotland is the country above all others that I have seen, in which a man of imagination may carve out his own pleasures…'

DOROTHY WORDSWORTH, Journal, August 1803
Around Edinburgh

Using Edinburgh as a base, it's possible to get a real taste of the immense diversity of Scotland - its spectacular scenery, dramatic coastline, forbidding castles and grand mansions, ancient towns and attractive villages. Within a few hours' drive, striking north or south, you can experience a wealth of different sights, which do much to put the city into perspective as the country's capital.

Central Scotland is home to the majority of Scots, with good roads and transport links, much of Scotland's industry and an increasing sense of purpose and hope for the future. Equally, some of the country's best agricultural land lies near at hand, while the hills, lochs and rivers offer the chance to appreciate a sense of space found in few other areas. Glasgow's dynamism stands in contrast to the tranquillity of the Fife and Borders villages, while its rich cultural life and history are further assets which will add to your Edinburgh experience.
