Urban Transportation
Lisbon has a subway system, buses, trams, funiculars and even ferries. Subway stations are marked with an “M” on the city map. For visitors, the Lisboa Card, valid for 24, 48 or 72 hours, gives free unlimited travel and free entry into 26 museums, monuments and other tourist attractions. Cards are available from tourist offices. Otherwise you can buy bus and tram tickets when boarding, and subway tickets from a machine or office at the subway station. The trams and funiculars are one of Lisbon's glories, so make a point of traveling on them; the modern tram 15 is a particularly useful line. Ferry tickets are available from offices at the ferry stations; again, a ferry trip is recommended as part of your sightseeing. Taxis are beige, or occasionally green and black. There are taxi stands on the open squares of the Rossio and the Praça da Figueira, or you can call a cab (PHONE: 218 119 000 and 21 812 5060). |
