DRIVING

Speed limit on motorways and dual carriageways: 70mph (112kph)

Speed limit on main roads: 50-60mph (80-100kph)

Speed limit on minor roads: 30- 40mph (50-65kph)

Seat Belts: Must be worn in front seats at all times and in rear seats where fitted.

Random breath tests are carried out frequently, especially late at night. The limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Fuel is sold in litres and available as unleaded, lead replacement petrol (LRP) or or diesel. In central London, petrol stations are few and far between but there are many open 24 hours on the main roads leading away from the centre and in the suburbs.

If you break down driving your own car and are a member of an AA-affiliated motoring club, you can call the AA (Phone: 0800 887 766 free phone). If your car is hired, follow the instructions given in the documentation; most rental firms provide a rescue service.
