Casa de Campo

To the west of the city, on the far side of the Río Manzanares, this vast park includes cafeterias, tennis courts, swimming pools, a lake, a zoo and the Parque de Atracciones (amusement park). The former hunting grounds are ideal for a picnic, kicking a ball about, or even tramping through the scrubland. During the Civil War, Franco's troops were based here, and some signs of the trenches are still visible. The most fun way to get there is by the Teleférico, but you can also go by Metro (Batán, Lago,) or drive there. Some parking places have become popular meeting spots for the gay community and prostitution is rife. It is best avoided at night.
