Urban Transportation

A U-Bahn (subway) and S-Bahn (suburban) train network covers the city center and beyond. The U-Bahn is marked on the city map by the letter “U” in a red circle, the S-Bahn by the letter “S” in a red circle. Trains run daily 5 a.m.-1 a.m. Buy tickets from machines at Müunchner Verkehrs-und Tarifverbund (MVV) stations, MVV sales desks, newsstands, and aboard buses and trams. You can purchase tickets individually, in strips or for 1, 3 or 7 days: multiple tickets are valid for buses and trams, too. Validate your ticket in the automatic stamping machine as you board, except for tickets bought from machines on trams (these will stamp automatically). One ticket is good for up to four bus/tram or two train stops; two tickets for additional stops. For MVV information PHONE: 089 21 03 30. Taxi stands can be found all over the city. Call Taxi-München, PHONE: 089 21 61-0, or IsarFunk Taxizentrale, PHONE: 089 45 05 40.
