Bavarian Eateries There are innumerable restaurants and cafés in Munich, and its large foreign population ensures a wide range of cuisines. At specifically Bavarian cafés, the Munich Weisswürste (white veal sausage with parsley) is a staple, served in hot water to be peeled and covered in mustard before eating. This delicacy is usually eaten before noon. Meals are generally early in Munich, as people start work at 7 or 8 a.m. Lunch can begin at 11:30 but is often substantial, and the “lunch hour” can last until 2 p.m. Dinner is served between 6:30 and 11 p.m., but locals tend to stick to a light supper, or Abendbrot. The Schwabing district, north of the city center, is a busy area of sidewalk cafés and taverns. Snack bars (Lokal or Schnellimbiss) and even butcher shops (Metzgereien) sell tasty meatloaf and sausages all day. And don't leave the city without visiting one of the beer gardens. |
