Haus der Kunst

The Haus der Kunst (House of Art) was opened by the Nazis in 1937 as a white-columned building known to its detractors as the Weisswurst (white sausage) gallery. It was part of Hitler's campaign against modern artists such as Paul Klee and Max Beckmann: While their work was ridiculed in an exhibition of “degenerates” in the Hofgarten, this gallery showed state-approved art. Work denounced by the Third Reich is shown in a series of exhibitions.
