Offices to Serve You Abroad
The Norges Statsbaner (NSB) network operates as far north as the Arctic Circle. Travel is comfortable but not cheap. Reservations are recommended on train jouneys and a must on long distance and overnight trains; inquire about discounts when booking (Phone:81 50 08 88, then dial 4 for an English-speaking operator, or www.nsb.no). BUS (buss)
Buses are an excellent, inexpensive way to explore regions that are less well-served by train. NOR-WAY Bussekspress (Phone:81 54 44 44; www.nor-way.no) is the national operator. Buy your ticket on board; it is not usually necessary to book in advance. FERRY (ferje)
Norway relies heavily on ferries and express boats/catamarans, which connect with trains and buses. Car ferries operate on a first-come, first-served system; payment is made on board. Some waterways have ferry services. Hurtigruten, a grand coastal steamer, links Bergen with Kirkenes, in far northern Norway, and calls at 34 ports en route.
