HEALTH

Insurance

Some medical services are subsidized for visitors from Australia and the UK, but all visitors are strongly recommended to arrange medical insurance cover in advance of their trip.

Dental Services

All medical, including dental services, are of a high standard and addresses can be found in the front of local telephone directories.

Sun Advice

The most serious potential health risk in New Zealand is from the sun. Ultra-violet radiation throughout the country is particularly high. Take adequate precautions, even on overcast days, by wearing a sun hat and using a sun cream with a high protection factor. Always ensure that children are well protected.

Drugs

Chemists (pharmacies) are usually open during normal shopping hours. If you are on unusual medication, take supplies with you as there is no guarantee that they will be available locally. Take your prescription certificate to avoid difficulties with customs.

Safe Water

Tap water everywhere in New Zealand is safe to drink. City water supplies are chlorinated and most are also fluoridated. If camping in remote areas, always boil water before drinking.
