Cromwell

( Worth Seeing )

Located east of Queenstown, in the barren landscape of Central Otago, Cromwell was partly rebuilt in the 1980s when the Clutha River was dammed to form Lake Dunstan. The story of the Clyde Dam, and Cromwell's origins as a gold-mining settlement, is presented in the town's information center and museum.
