Mount Eden and One Tree Hill

( Highly Recommended )

Respectively the highest (196m) and second highest (183m) of Auckland's mainland volcanic peaks, both provide panoramic views although Mount Eden gives the closer view of Auckland's downtown and harbor areas. Roads go to the top of both, but most sightseeing coaches opt for Mount Eden.
Both were former Maori pa (fortresses) and terracing and food storage pits are still visible.

Address: Access off Hillside Crescent, Mount Eden Road; 4km from downtown
Open: Unrestricted access
Restaurant: Langton's (Moderately priced), on slopes
Accessible: Road to top
Admission: Free access
Practical: Road is one-way
