Kerikeri

( Highly Recommended )

Kerikeri, situated 23km from Paihia, is known for its citrus fruit orchards and craft workshops. It is the small harbor basin, however, that is of most interest. Historic sites here include Kemp House, erected in 1822 as the country's second mission station, now the oldest surviving building in New Zealand, and the Stone Store, originally part of the mission settlement but now a museum.
Across the inlet is Rewa's Maori Village, a full-size reconstruction of a pre-European Maori fishing village.
