Akaroa and Banks Peninsula

( Highly Recommended )

Within days of the British declaring sovereignty over New Zealand in 1840, a shipload of French settlers founded Akaroa on the Banks Peninsula to the southeast of Christchurch, and it has remained French in spirit.
The mountainous Banks Peninsula is a large volcanic outcrop, with the original craters now forming Lyttelton and Akaroa harbors. Allow time for a cruise.
