The 30ha Botanic Gardens lie within Hagley Park, a vast sports and recreation area on the fringe of the central business district. Set amid the wooded lawns are a number of themed gardens (rose, rock, azalea), and there are many displays of flowering trees and exotic plants. The glasshouses feature numerous displays of orchids, ferns, and tropical plants, among others.
