This is a general collection relating to New Zealand history and ethnology. Two specialist exhibits are of particular interest:
The Moa Hunters, featuring life-size dioramas of early Maori and the giant flightless bird (long extinct), and the excellent
Hall of Antarctic Discovery, with relics from the Scott expedition and others. The museum has a gift store and organizes four
free guided tours daily.
