Christchurch Cathedral
(
Highly Recommended
)
The building of this Gothic-style edifice, crowned with a 65m copper-clad spire, was begun in 1864 at the heart of the original
Church of England settlement. The cathedral was completed 40 years later. There are 133 steep stone steps up to the top of
the bell tower and, as might be expected, the views from the top are worth the effort.
