3 Te Papa Tongarewa
Bold, imaginative, constantly changing and always fun, Te Papa is New Zealand's leading-edge national museum. Te Papa is a bicultural museum and has a variety of exhibitions which tell the stories and display the taonga (treasures) of the Maori people, the first discoverers of Aotearoa (New Zealand). "Hands-on" exhibitions such as Awesome Forces and Mountains to Sea tell the stories of the formation of this land, and the creatures that live on it, while Bush City allows you to experience New Zealand's native bush right in the middle of the city. The stories of New Zealand's immigrants are dramatically conveyed in Passports, while Exhibiting Ourselves shows how New Zealand portrayed itself to the rest of the world. Golden Days is a highly original attraction, where you can see 100 years of New Zealand history literally come alive in just 12 minutes - all inside a junk shop! For those who enjoy a bit of a thrill, the Time Warp will delight you. The Time Warp features Blastback and Future Rush, which are exciting time-travel rides to the past and future, while virtual bungy-jumping, sheep shearing, and a variety of other classic Kiwi activities provide challenging interactive fun.
