Introduction
Odense seems to radiate the persuasive charm of a story by its most famous son, Hans Christian Andersen. Even factory chimneys
on the outskirts of the city are gaily painted and are thus less stark against the sky, and the surviving medieval buildings
of the Old Town are enchanting. Above all, the city makes a refreshing change from the urban bustle of Copenhagen. Odense's
wealth of museums and attractions are worthy of a city several times its size.
An important regional capital and university town, Odense retains its provincial charm, and is rightly celebrated as the birthplace
of Hans Christian Andersen and Denmark's great composer Carl Nielsen.
