The Market Town The Original Alice |
The Original Alice The children's books Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through The Looking Glass were inspired by Oxford life. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, a lecturer and ordained deacon at Christ Church, wrote the books during the latter part of the 19th century. Dodgson formed an intense friendship with Alice Liddell, the young daughter of the Dean of Christ Church. He entertained her and her sisters with his stories of Wonderland, and they were later published under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. Alice's Shop, ADDRESS: 83 St. Aldates PHONE: 01865 723793 HOURS: Daily 11-5, sells Alice memorabilia. |
