PERSONAL SAFETY

Petty crime, particularly theft of wallets and handbags is fairly common in Paris. Be aware of innocent, scruffy-looking children, they may be working the streets in gangs, fleecing unwary tourists. Report any loss or theft to the Police Municipale (blue uniforms). To be safe:

Watch your bag on the métro, in busy tourist areas like Beaubourg and the Champs-Elysées and in museum queues.

Cars should be well-secured.

Keep valuables in your hotel safe.

Police assistance: Phone: 17 from any call box
